Review: Buried Secrets Series by Silla Webb (Books 1 and 2)

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Published: 2014

My Rating: 4 ⛤⛤⛤⛤

My Thoughts: I was drawn to these books when I found them on Amazon. I am from a Coal Town. Maybe the biggest Coal County in Eastern Kentucky. So of course I was intrigued by this. I did some research on the author and found that she actually is from the same County as me.

I only read the first two books of the series, but there is a third, however I did not have any interest in reading that one.

The first two books are about Carly John Simon, daughter of Big John Simon, who was a huge Coal Mine owner.

Carly got the shock of her life when she was 17 years old. Her boyfriend broke up with her and the very next day she found out she was pregnant. When she ran to her Daddy, the one person who had always loved her, he was ashamed by her. It broke her heart and it was the straw, she had to leave.

Before I go on, just know that these books contain rape, drug use, abuse and violence.

Seven years pass by and Carly gets the news that her father was dying and she knew she had to get back to Kentucky as soon as possible.

He soon dies and she discovers her daddy has left her the company. She knew not a thing about being a CEO of a Coal Mines.

With that on her plate, she bumps into her old flame…Colton, the boy she left behind all those years back.

I don’t want to say that much without giving a lot away. I liked the two I read, but just didn’t love them.

Honestly, I thought that they were good, but at times there were some unnecessary drama.

Being from this area, I thought that Silla Webb did a fairly good job explaining the troubles of this area. There is a big drug problem in the region and that is covered in these books.

Anyways, if you wish to read these books, the first one is Kindle Unlimited, however the second and third are not.

On to the next one!

Review: Torpedo by Joanne Blake

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Pages: 481 (it says that on GR, but there is no way that book was 481 pages because there are two books in one)

Published: January 17th 2017

Goodreads Summary:There’s three things I love: my crew, my ship, and sinking my torpedo.

I wanted to serve my country for life, but then my ship blew up. Now I’m stuck on indefinite shore leave, holed up in my hometown with no crew, no ship, and definitely no women.

Until, after five years, she walks back into my life .

Tabitha Peterson.

Shabby Tabby, the beautiful girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She didn’t have money for fancy clothes, but Tabitha still caught every eye in a hundred mile radius – especially mine. Back then, I’d have done anything to catch her – with zero luck.

I’d always wondered where she ended up.

Now I know – because she’s in my house, the caregiver sent to tend to me. I’m broken, maybe forever, but she’s more tempting than ever, with her crazy curves and big, beautiful eyes.

I go from being bored stiff to having the challenge of my life.

I have two missions: learn to walk again, and get Tabby where I’ve wanted her all this time. In my arms and in my bed.

We can do it lying, sitting, or standing on one leg – I don’t need both legs to show her a good time. I just want to tear her walls down as I tear her clothes off.

When they fall, I’m not prepared for what comes next. How badly she’s been hurt… or how badly I want to protect her.

But I’ll risk everything to make her mine, for good

My Rating: 🌟🌟

My Thoughts: This book was a big nope for me. I went into this, not realizing what the word torpedo meant in the first sentence of the summary.

Torpedo: a cigar-shaped self-propelled underwater missile designed to be fired from a ship or submarine or dropped into the water from an aircraft and to explode on reaching a target

Nope, it isn’t that. It’s his penis. Now granted he was in the Navy. This book had me seriously ROLLING my eyes so hard it’s a wonder that they didn’t fall out of my eye sockets.

The man in this story, Gabe, he was a jerk and horn dog. There was no chemistry at all. It moved so fast, within a moment they were spitting out “I love you’s”. It was super rushed.

I want a book I can feel! I want to understand the characters emotions and pain and this was so fast there was nothing to grab ahold of.

And take note, this book only goes to 50% and then they slip another book in there. Usually I would be a fan, but I am not even going to attempt it.

On to the next one. (I apologize if there are errors in this post, I’m on lunch and on my cellphone 😂😂)

Review: Vintage By Lisa Suzanne

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Rocker Romance

Pages: 475 Pages

Published: December 28th 2016

Cliffhanger?: Volume 1 yes Volume 2 No

Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Goodreads Summary: Vintage Volume One:
Born the daughter of a rock star and his groupie, my life should have been full of glitz and glamour. But the excess and embarrassment of that life didn’t interest me. Instead, I killed time at Vintage, a record store where I stocked shelves and lacked ambition.

Everything changed the moment I pressed play. One simple lyric awakened me.

When I stopped denying my attraction to the man behind the music, I started questioning his intentions. We were meant to cross paths, but it wasn’t because of fate.

Someone was playing with our lives.

Vintage Volume Two:
Murdering a global icon was off limits, but his family was fair game.

The threats against me, the daughter of rock star Gideon Price, forced me closer to the man protecting me. I’d lost track of the number of secrets the men in my life had kept from me. But when the threat against my family turned to murder, it was time for me to learn the truth.

I was reminded once again just how short life could be, compelling me to take control of my future.

I was no longer in the dark, but I was in more danger than I ever imagined.

My Rating: 5 Jimi Hendrix Stars

My Thoughts: Again, like I said before, I love Rockstar books! Roxanna Price was born to rockstar Gideon Price and one of his groupies. Roxanna wasn’t exactly the typical rockstar kid. She worked full time at a old record store called Vintage, a job she definitely didn’t need. She wasn’t a fan of the limelight or musicians in general.

So of course her life gets turned completely upside down when she comes face to face with Parker James. Parker was lead guitarist in the new band Flashing Light. She had overheard a conversation between him and his band members and he defended her. She was instantly attracted to him.

But, don’t turn to this book wanting only a romance, this also is very action packed. When an old gambling buddy of Gideon seeks revenge, it causes havoc in CC’s life. Is Parker who CC thinks he is? What about Jadyn Snow, her new porn star step-mom? Who is the enemy?

This is a series you don’t want to miss! And they are together on Kindle Unlimited! Check it out!

Review: Wicked Innocence by Missy Johnson

Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance, Rocker Romance, Music

Pages: 238

Published: August 2nd 2014

Cliffhanger?: No

Goodreads Summary: Don’t let my petite and innocent appearance fool you, because I’m one person you don’t want to cross. I’m Micah, the youngest member of Resurrection…If only they knew how young.

My fake ID says I’m twenty-one. And I will be…in four years.

What can I say? I blossomed early. Home sucked, so I left, determined to do something with my life.
Landing the gig as lead vocalist in the band was a dream come true. I’ve worked hard to make something of myself and nothing is going to ruin that for me.

Then He showed up. Saxon Waite, ex bad boy of rock.

He’s hot as hell and so into me.

But he’s also twenty-five.

I don’t want to lie to him, but if the truth comes out I’ll lose everything. Including him.

My Rating: 3 Rockstars

I love rocker books. I love a guitar playing guy that can sing in front of thousands of people. Maybe it’s because I only dream about becoming famous from my awesome singing stills…just kidding.

I found this book on Facebook, and of course I had high hopes, as I always do. However this one just missed the mark with me. It wasn’t believable enough for me. I may be naive and live in an extremely small town. I just can’t see a 14 year old girl passing as 18.

Micah whose real name is Mckayla, finds herself in a run down crummy apartment buy a fake id, birth certificate and passport off a guy, I believe she found on Craigslist. She gets all of new IDs and starts a new life.

One day she shows up at an audition for an upcoming band. She doesn’t quite hit it off at first, but they give her a second chance and it really impressed the band. Soon after, she meets Saxon Waite, the band’s manager, who happens to be a rockstar.

Sure Saxon is a swoon worthy 25 year old who had gotten himself into trouble and took a step back from the limelight. When he meets Micah, he notices she isn’t like other girls. He tries to stay away from her, but it is hard to deny the attraction they have for one another.

Going into this book, you know that it is going to blow up in her face. The truth was going to come out eventually. The thing that bothered me was of course the fact that she was underage.  Another thing being the fact that when he thought that Micah was 21, Saxton had a issue with her being that much younger than him. He was 25. When the truth was revealed, he just couldn’t drop the fact that he was still crazy about her.

It was a good concept though. And I realized I have read quite a few books by Missy Johnson, but this one is my least favorite. It is a Kindle Unlimited, so if you are still intrigued check it out!

Review: See Through Heart by Amie Knight

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Pages: 219

Published: November 4th 2016

Kindle Unlimited: Yes!!

Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Goodreads Summary: Ainsley came into my life in a flurry of vibrant colors, lighting my world up when all seemed lost.

It wasn’t our quiet nights by the creek or stolen kisses surrounded by a sea of cotton that saved me.

It was her.

She was my comfort when life threw one ugly tragedy after another at me.

Until she dealt me the greatest blow.

Now, abandonment, betrayal, and death darken every corner of my life. Anger and hurt burn bright where love and trust once lived.

But, now, she’s back. Sure, she’s changed, but I see through it—straight to her heart.

My rating: 5 Sunshinin’ Stars!

My Thoughts: This debut novel from Amie Knight was a hit! It was one of those knocked out of the ball park hits.I felt this book in my heart and soul.

I have a soft spot for first love stories. They make such amazing books when a lead character is suddenly reunited with an old flame.

Ainsley and Adrian were best friends. She was the sunshine in his life, according to him atleast. She kept him safe and took care of him all throughout their childhood. Anisley, Adrian and Lori were inseparable. At home, at school.

When they hit their teens, Lori, who was Ainsley’s cousin, started to get herself into trouble.  As that was happening, Ainsley and Adrian were falling in love. But when tragedy strikes, Ainsley’s runs. She leaves behind her mom and Adrian and her best friend Miranda. But when she returns home after four years of college and runs into Adrian again, things get heated.

Like I said….I LOVED this book. It is one of those that stay with you long after you read the last page. Check it out! 16110309_1765595280427918_1804074821974228992_n

Yep that’s me. Laying in bed with so much on my mind. Writing has been a dream of mine and very few people know that I aspire to do things with words.

As long as I can remember, I have wrote things. When I was a tween, I would write fanfictions about my favorite boy bands. I would get a little too excited when it came to creative writing at school.

I haven’t been writing a lot in the last couple of years. Once Brylynn came along I was only in mommy mode.I have wrote to her, things for when she gets older.

When she turned one we created her an email account and on occasion, I will type a few lines and send it to that email. Hopefully when she is older, when we give her access to it, she will look back and see just how much she means to us. She will have memories, our memories of things she done that she won’t be able to remember.

Today, I wrote a poem. Actually two. I really want to share that here. I know it would be breaking away from what I set to do when I created this blog, but I wanted to see if you all would be okay with it. With my ramblings of sorts.

Of course the book reviews will continue. I will never stop reading.

Review: Lip Service Simone Sowood

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Pages: 239

Released: Jan. 2nd 2017 (A Brand New One!)

Goodreads Summary: My new neighbor is an online s*x advice vlogger — but she doesn’t know that I know

Out of curiosity, I checked out her videos. Who wouldn’t?
I didn’t count on being tempted by her silky voice or her full lips.
Too bad she’s off limits.
Being a single dad isn’t easy, and I have rules — no relationships, and no screwing close to home.
But when I become the subject of her posts, I can’t keep my hands off her any longer.
I have to teach her everything she got wrong in her videos.

*** A steamy STANDALONE full length contemporary romance novel with a hot, dominant bad boy alpha. No cliffhanger, no cheating, and a guaranteed happily ever after.***

My Rating: 5 Webcam stars!

My Review: You know, this is another book that surprised me. I really liked the characters. Avery, the sex expert, Knox, the hottie mechanic and of course Piper the spunky teen that brought them together.

Knox is a single dad. He was left to raise his 13-year-old daughter, when his baby mama had plans to marry another man. He somehow figured it out on his own. But when Avery moves in next door, she has his reevaluation his number one rule. No dating!

At first he was afraid that she would be a bad influence on his daughter,  when in return he realized, he needed her help because he didn’t know anything about bras and periods that his budding daughter was in much need of.

But when attraction became too much, they came to an agreement, only sex. And they had to keep it a secret. Until they both discover it is much more than just sex.

If you know me, you know this is a Kindle Unlimited. Hey, I am cheap! This was also my first by this author. I will definitely be on the look out for more from her! Be sure to check out Lip Service!

We are officially on the 15th day of 2017. 2016 was a rough year to say the least. Bryant’s diagnosis was a hard-hitting moment about halfway through the year.

He had surgery on December 9th to place a defibrillator and his heart doctors are not releasing him to go back to work. They both say that the low ejection fraction of his heart and the weakness he feels from the condition and the medication he has to take, that he is no longer able to work.

With that being said we are now a one income family until he gets approved for disability. They say it can take anywhere between 1 month to maybe 6 months for the first time. If he isn’t approved we then have to get a lawyer…like we have money for that.

We are also now a one CAR family because we can not pay both payments with my little income. So we are starting 2017 off on a tight budget. If anyone knows how to coupon or save money, please feel free to message me or comment because I need help.

My child is talking up a storm. I worried for the longest time if there wasn’t something wrong with her because she wasn’t talking like other kids her age. Just as how I worried about her not walking and everything else. The thing with kids, I have learned is, they will do everything on THEIR time. Not when other kids do it or when a book says they will do it. Whenever they are ready, the are ready.

She is loving her library school class. Now that Daddy isn’t working, he has been going with us to class and she loves having him there and so does Mommy.

In the reading side of things, I have placed my goal at 200 books this year. Currently I have read 13!

I am thinking about beginning to write. I have this crazy dream of being a writer. To write someone who people will read and have to close the book and stare off into space to comprehend the awe that was my book. Hey, a girl can dream right?

Review: Lingus by Mariana Zapata

Genre: Romance, Contemporary, NA, Rom Com

Pages: 275

Released: February 8th 2012

Goodreads Summary:   Most people would describe Katherine Berger as a responsible girl with a big heart, a loyal friend who takes care of those close to her, and the possessor of a wicked sense of humor. There was something about her that most people didn’t know. “My name is Kat Berger, and I love porn.”

When twenty-five-year-old Kat is dragged to a porn convention by her best friend, she’s both embarrassed and nervous. The last thing she ever expected was to meet someone who makes her laugh like no other. This is a story about acceptance and friendship, and a love born out of the most unexpected of places.

My Review: Oh Lingus…I loved him so much. I couldn’t imagine being in the friend zone with a porn star. Especially a hot one. You know, you read about teachers, actors and rock stars. Why not porn stars? Afterall, are they not just normal people off camera?

Tristan was the Clark Kent of porn. He hid his identity behind glasses and hair dye and an alias. When off camera, he was a law student, a nerd even, but he was lonely. He just wanted someone to see him for would he truly was. Kat did just that.

Although, she felt an attraction to him instantly, she agreed to just be friends with him. She did just that. She nurses him back to health when he is sick. He helps her clean up after an embarrassing mishap. Thank God, they are just friends…right?

When he leaves to go shoot more movies, she finds herself saddened by the thought of him being it other woman. She tries to forget about her feelings and be a friend to Tristan when he returns.

She could never be in a relationship with him, right? There would be too much jealousy involved when he had to do his “job” on-screen. She couldn’t actually be with someone how has sex with other people for a living..could she?

I really liked this one, believe it or not. It was a quick read for me. I started and finished it in one afternoon. I loved the banter between Kat and Tristan. You can almost feel the sexual tension while reading this during a few scenes. And no don’t get freaked out thinking there are a lot of porn scenes. This story is told through the eyes of Kat.

It is on KU, check it out!

Ex Games by Stella Rhys

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Pages: 206

Kindle Unlimited: ✔

Goodreads Summary: What’s ice-cold but hotter than hell? Rebounding with your ex’s older brother, of course.

A perfect storm led me to this place. Ghosted by my fiancé, I was suddenly broke, heartbroken and facing eviction. Enter Mason Leo, the six feet and two inches of pure muscle and arrogance I’ve hated with a passion since the day we met. The man is cocky, womanizing and ruinously gorgeous.

Worse than that, he’s my ex’s brother. And for the next two weeks, he gets to do with me as he pleases.

I’ll explain.

With both our exes – wait for it – set to marry each other in St. Lucia, I’ve agreed to let Mason pay my debts so long as I play his date. My only job is to keep my clothes on while I get my closure. Because as much as I hate Mason Leo, the man is a walking sex god. And in the name of revenge, he gets to take me out, show me off – dress, touch and kiss me with those wicked lips. It’s all for show, but every night in paradise with him brings more drinks, more drama and another temptation, so no matter what I do, I can’t stop reminding myself this:

There’s absolutely no good to come from f*cking my ex’s brother.

No matter how good it’ll feel.

My Rating: ⛤⛤⛤⛤⛤

My Review: I am a sucker when it comes to books. I love it when the good guy wins. I love angst. I love forbidden relationships.

I would kind classify this as a forbidden relationship.Because dating your ex’s brother should be off limits.

But what if you have a reason, payback. Who knows that you would actually fall in love with each other.

Mason and Taylor are both pissed. Taylor’s finance has left her with nothing. In an apartment that she can’t afford, with plans for a wedding that was never going to happen. No explanation, no reason. Just a goodbye scribbled on the backside of a crumbled up receipt.

When Mason shows up at her apartment and gives her the reason, Aaron, was getting married to another woma. Mason’s ex. So what better to do, but scheme up a payback so big it would make you want slap your mama.

Only they fall for each other. For real. That only makes revenge sweeter.

My favorite read of 2017 so far!
