The night is nothing short of perfect. The air is warm, there’s barely any wind, and the moon is young, so the sky is dark, laced with thousands of stars. We find our spot along the beach, well away from the other stargazers, and set down our sleeping bags, a couple of blankets, and our cooler.
Our eighties playlist is playing softly in the background while we enjoy the night. Daniel takes photos, and every so often he shows me an image he’s caught on camera. I’m in awe. He really is amazing. The way he sees the world is so different from how most of us do – angles and frames and visions that capture the beauty of everything that surrounds us, including the stars. Even in the dark, I can see a twinkle in his eyes, that same look he has when he picks up his camera. Confident. In charge. Sexy.
I squeeze in between Daniel and the telescope and lean into the eyepiece. I’m instantly fascinated by what I see. The star flickers like it’s dancing in the sky. There are hues of red and orange and gold, and it sparkles like a gem.
I’m equally distracted because Daniel is standing right behind me. He hasn’t moved an inch. His chest presses against my back, and I tense for a moment, unsure of his intent. His scent makes its way to me, and my eyes flutter closed for an instant. I inhale and savor the way he makes me feel. My initial tense reaction gives way to a new one – one that confuses me and excites me all at the same time. Goosebumps cover my arms, and my breath hitches in my throat. I can’t help but shiver from the sparks that travel through my body.
His response is not what I expect. Yet, even though I’m afraid to admit it to myself, it’s quite possibly what I hoped for. He wraps his arms around me so they criss-cross just above my waist. He starts to rub my arms, warming my skin and melting the goosebumps – and my whole body. My mind is screaming, Do not cross the friendship boundary! No good can come of it. Thank goodness for my sensible brain. Too bad I don’t always listen to it.
On that thought, I can’t help but relax into him. His strong, lean frame envelops me, and I’m aware of the contours of his body and the heat that radiates between us. I nestle into his shoulder and look up at the stars above us. He buries his nose in my hair and inhales deeply. Here, away from the city lights, it seems as though it’s just Daniel and me and our newfound closeness.
“Hey, there’s a shooting star.” I point to where it’s trailing across the sky. “Did you see it?”
SweetBlissHope you made a wish,” he whispers in my ear, and I swear his lips graze my skin. I shiver again, unable to control my reaction.

A Beautiful Sin by Terri E. Laine

Pages: 330

Genre: Contemporary

Published: June 23 2016

Summary: ***From USA Today Bestselling Authors, A.M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine, comes a standalone, Forbidden Love Story.

Since I was a boy, my desire was to marry the church. To give my vows and life over to God despite the corruption in my soul.

I am a sinner, the embodiment of temptation, or so I’ve been told.

Yet, I’ve never touched, never kissed, never sought the company of another until her.
She is my weakness, my salvation, my downfall and my freedom. Our sins are bound tighter than fate.

My name is Canaan. I am an ordained Roman Catholic priest, forever and always.

Her name is Haven. She may be my destiny, my destruction.

This is not a love story, but rather a confession of all my sins.

*Warning – A Beautiful Sin is a forbidden romance that blurs the lines between passion and religious faith. Please be warned, the subject matter may be offensive to some readers

My Rating: 5 Holy Stars

I will admit that when I first realized what this was about I was a little concerned it may be a little too much taboo for me. I know that’s hard to believe but it is true! But when you get into the story and learn the background of the characters, there will be no doubt that they were meant to be together, regardless.

Canaan was just too hot to handle in the ways that Haven describes him.

This book gives us a reminder that everyone is human. No one is without sin.

If The Creek Don’t Rise by Leah Weiss

Pages: 320

Genre: Historical Fiction

Published date: August 8th 2017.

Goodreads | Amazon

Summary: A strikingly sincere portrait of a town and its buried secrets from an outstanding new voice in southern fiction.

In a North Carolina mountain town filled with moonshine and rotten husbands, Sadie Blue is only the latest girl to face a dead-end future at the mercy of a dangerous drunk. She’s been married to Roy Tupkin for fifteen days, and she knows now that she should have listened to the folks who said he was trouble. But when a stranger sweeps in and knocks the world off-kilter for everyone in town, Sadie begins to think there might be more to life than being Roy’s wife.

As stark and magnificent as Appalachia itself, If the Creek Don’t Rise is a bold and beautifully layered debut about a dusty, desperate town finding the inner strength it needs to outrun its demons. The folks of Baines Creek will take you deep into the mountains with heart, honesty, and homegrown grit.

My Rating: 5 Stars!!

I am usually a straight and narrow reader. Meaning, I usually stick to romance novels of the contemporary nature. However, this book peeked my interest. You see, I myself, like the characters in this story, live deep in the Appalachian Mountains.

Set in the 1970’s in Baines Creek, North Carolina, the author Leah Weiss, tells the story of a small town, filled with people of different personalities.

First we meet Miss Sadie Blue, actually is most recently Mrs. Sadie Tupkin, as she just wed Roy Tupkin, It didn’t take her long into her marriage that she should have listened to her grandmother and stayed away from that no good Roy.

Once we learn of Sadie’s situation, we move on to the other’s that make up this small, gritty Appalachian town. Gladys Hicks, who is Sadie’s grandmother, knew exactly what Sadie was getting into when she gave herself to Roy. With one good look at the boy, Gladys knew his was of the sorry kind. She knew because she had made the same mistake long ago. But when she had taken all she could take she and Mother Nature, took care of her problem, her husband, Walter.

Within the pages, you will learn about the small town preacher who thinks he may be in love for the first time, his sister who is a spinster and is very mean-spirited. An old medicine woman with the help of her feathered friend, Samuel, who solves the towns lastest crime. You get to see inside the lives of Aunt Marris and the newcomer to the town, the school teacher, Kate and lastly, you will meet Roy himself and his best friend Billy.
This book tells many tales that all lead up to the conclusion, one that I didn’t see coming and actually had to go back and read the last page again to make sure I read it correctly.

Don’t miss this book. Read it.

“If the good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise”.

Vanishing Act is a stand alone novel meant for readers 18+ due to adult content.

My Rating: 4 Stars

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review via Netgalley.

Vanishing Act by A.M. Madden is a story of the famous Landon Price. He is the hottest male actor in Hollywood at the moment , but he needs a break. He has had a rough year in his personal life and he just didn’t have it in him to carry on without a little vacation.

Despite the protesting of his agent, Roger, he went on a sabbatical to Hawaii. He discovered this town that was supposedly stuck in time. A very small town with a bungalow to rent. While traveling and on this vacation, his used an alias, Lance White.

Not long after arriving, a white furry ball of fluff shows up at his doorstep. so naturally Lance A.K.A Landon goes on the hunt for the dogs owner. Once he found her, he was knocked off his feet by Zara.

Insta-love pursues. Zara, like the rest of the town of Lanai, have no clue who Lace really is. Lance tries his best to get Zara to give him a chance, but using her dog, Marshmallow as bait to get to her.

It was a pretty good read. I just hate the insta-love in books. I want there to be that falling in love aspect with a little drama and angst.

He may be my downfall…
But I am more than eager to take the plunge.

My Rating: 4 Stars!

First off, let me start by saying that I was given the opportunity to read this novella as an ARC for an honest review.

This was my first read of the author J.C. Valentine and the story is based on real life events. WOW! Way to go J.C.

Anyways the book is about Julie, who is a newly single mother of three who wants to get back into the dating saddle. So she turns to a dating website, as many people do these days. She is pared up with Alejandro.

There are times when you meet someone, you just know that it is right. And it seems that this was true for Julie. There is a huge cliffhanger in this novella. That along with the length of this book are the only down falls for me. That is because I wanted more!!

Can’t wait to get the rest of the story!

Big D by Stephanie Brother

WARNING! This is actually two reviews, the first being Big D by Stephanie Brother and the second being Huge-A Stepbrother Romance also by Stephanie Brother. This is because they were combined in the Kindle version of the book that I purchased.

Big D by Stephanie Brother

Genre: College, Romance, New Adult

Pages: 237 (Trust me, it isn’t this long because it isn’t a full length book, it’s two novella’s together)

Links: Amazon | Goodreads | Note: I could not find this book on B&N.

Published: October 16th, 2016

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Summary: They call him Big D because he is.
Tall and broad, with muscles so thick and good that all I can think about is getting a grip on his biceps and squeezing.
Then there’s the other reason.
All the girls talk about it. I’m not sure how everyone knows he’s hung like a horse but they do.
I try not to think about it because he’s a popular football player who everybody knows and I’m just the work-focused history major who likes to stay mostly invisible at school. But when my professor pulls me aside and asks if I’d be willing to tutor a failing student, suddenly it’s impossible to ignore.
I’m going to be teaching Big D. If he doesn’t pass he’ll be off the team and they can’t win without him.
We’re going to be together night after night, well, the ones I’m not working. I have two big secrets you see. Huge enough that I know for sure that I’m not right for Big D, even though I wish I was.
In my fantasies I imagine finding out if he really does live up to his name, but when trouble heads in my direction again, Dominic Ramsey might be the only one that can keep me safe.

Big D is a standalone Sports Romance with a happy ever after. It also features HUGE – A  Stepbrother Romance for your continued reading pleasure! Enjoy!

My Review: Big D = Big Disappointment for me. NOW, don’t get me wrong. I really loved the story, it had so much potential, however it was not a book, but a novella. I purchased this without reading a synopsis or a review, so maybe that was my fault. I love big books, but the only thing big in this read was the leading male character’s member. And let me warn you, they talk penis on the first couple of pages, so beware.

Hannah was crushing hard on the football star of her college’s team, Big D. She was assigned to begin tutoring him so that he can stay on the football team, she decided to go along with it because her professor was promising her scholarship money for getting him to pass history class.

Dominic A.K.A Big D, isn’t really like your typical jock. He seemed very caring and sweet and he was very protective, which turns out to be a good thing. He and Hannah take a fast liking to one another, but soon realize it was hard to balance all of the things they were hiding from each other.

Like I said, I did like this story. However, I was disappointed about the length and also the title states this is a sports romance, but they only mention the sports aspect maybe two times other than stating that Dominic plays football. I had my hopes up on a good sports/romance read, so if you are looking for that, look elsewhere.

Also, I stated that it had potential to be a full length book, it really did but the author shut it down quickly. I am not sure if she just didn’t know what angle to use or what happen. It was very interesting, it kept me reading along until the end and I was hooked.

Huge: A Stepbrother Romance also by Stephanie Brother

Genre: Romance, Contemporary, Stepbrother.

Pages: 75

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Published: September 2, 2015

Links: Amazon | Goodreads | (I also couldn’t find this one on B&N)

Goodread Summary: I didn’t mean to see it.

It’s his fault for leaving his door open while he was getting changed.

I’ve seen my stepbrothers gorgeous, ripped body before, and have been half in love with him since he moved into my house. He’s cocky and sexy and when he calls me princess I want to punch him in the mouth.

But I’ve never seen a d*ck that big, and now that I have I can’t seem to think of anything else.

I want him, but crossing the line could risk the happiness of our new home.
Harrison would never make the first move, so I guess I’m going to have to find a way.

And the masked Halloween party at his best friend’s house seems like too good an opportunity to pass up.

My Review: Okay, so I am going to out on a limb here and say that the author has a fetish for big trouser snakes. And that’s totally fine, I mean, I am a woman and a writer and I know size matters! But the title says it all, this also includes a leading male that is well endowed.

So, this one actually was released a year prior to Big D and it tells the story of Jenna, who is Hannah’s best friend, and Harrison, who is Dominic’s bestie. They are step-siblings and at this time, they are still in high school, I would guess because they are still living with their parent’s.

Jenna was going by Harrison’s room one day and found herself face to face with his penis. He had obviously just gotten out of the shower and left his door open while he was getting dressed. It was all she could think about. She had formed this attraction for him and was plotting a way to be with him without actually “being” with him.

This one was shorter that Big D, but I wanted it to go on further. I wanted to know what happen next. If you are like me and read this book after reading Big D, you will know a little, but not enough to formulate how things went down after the book ended.

All in all, I like both stories, I really did. I just wish they were longer, which is why I can’t rate either of them high. I have to take away, but that’s because I love my books 300+ pages.

A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner

A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner

Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance.

Pages: 380

Links: Amazon | Goodreads | Barnes & Noble

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (I would give more if I could.)

Goodreads Summary: It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.

Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.

It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.

But we can’t start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

My Review:

This book is called A Love Letter to Whiskey, well I want to write a love letter to this book Sometimes you pick up a book and they wound you. This gutted me, but I loved it. It hurts when you know that two people belong together, but they never can seem to get the timing right.

Truly, the heart break started even before the story began, with the quote the author added to the beginning. That is where the knots in my stomach formed.

“One day, whether you are 14, 28, or 65, you will stumble upon someone who will start a fire in you that cannot die. However, the saddest, most awful truth you will ever come to find- is they are not always with whom we spend our lives.”- Beau Taplin

Brecks was different, she wasn’t blonde or curvy like her best friend Jenna. She wasn’t into sports, but she loved surfing. Her family life was the opposite of perfect. While trying to keep up with Jenna, she spots the hottest guy she had ever seen and before she knows it, she is flat on her butt. They collided, but before she could speak, before she could tell  Jenna that she wanted dibs, she watched it happen. Even though she was the one that was literally on the ground, she witnessed as Whiskey A.K.A Jamie, as he fell for her best friend.

Bad timing. It seems as though that all there ever was between Jamie and B. While Jamie was with Jenna, she and Jamie became best friends automatically, even though she was sure there was more between them. They were drawn to each like moths to a flame.

The way the story reads is so gripping. From the first lines, you are hooked. B was a true addict to Whiskey, but she wasn’t an alcoholic. Her weakness being the Whiskey eyes of Jamie Shaw and I don’t blame her.

The electric heat of the chemistry between the two characters was amazing. The author literally made me feel each emotion right along with them. There is so much angst and pain. You want it to work, but real life doesn’t work that way.

I, too was an addict. An addict of the author’s words. You consume them and it leaves you wanting more and more and at the end you are breathless.

How to Hang A Witch by Adriana Mather

How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal

Pages: 368

Published on: July 26th 2016

LinksAmazon | Good Reads | Barnes & Noble

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Summary: How to Hang a Witch

It’s the Salem Witch Trials meets Mean Girls in a debut novel from one of the descendants of Cotton Mather, where the trials of high school start to feel like a modern day witch hunt for a teen with all the wrong connections to Salem’s past.

Salem, Massachusetts is the site of the infamous witch trials and the new home of Samantha Mather. Recently transplanted from New York City, Sam and her stepmother are not exactly welcomed with open arms. Sam is the descendant of Cotton Mather, one of the men responsible for those trials and almost immediately, she becomes the enemy of a group of girls who call themselves The Descendants. And guess who their ancestors were?

If dealing with that weren’t enough, Sam also comes face to face with a real live (well technically dead) ghost. A handsome, angry ghost who wants Sam to stop touching his stuff. But soon Sam discovers she is at the center of a centuries old curse affecting anyone with ties to the trials. Sam must come to terms with the ghost and find a way to work with The Descendants to stop a deadly cycle that has been going on since the first accused witch was hanged. If any town should have learned its lesson, it’s Salem. But history may be about to repeat itself.

My Review: This is another book that I discovered on Facebook and I actually enjoyed this one! There is a little video preview of this book and at first I thought I was a movie because it was so good!

Sam Mather moves to Salem, where her father had grew up. When word gets around in her new school that she is a ‘Mather’, she’s doomed.

You see, she is a descendant of Cotton Mather, who basically caused the Salem Witch Trials. So, everyone hates her, except for Jaxon, who is her new next door neighbor and Elijah Roe, a spirit.

Together they discover that there is a curse hitting the streets and killing all of the descending families that were involved in the Trials so long ago. They must find a way to stop it before it kills everyone in town!

I really enjoyed this book. I don’t have any complaints. It really takes you on a trip and shocks the crap out of you in the end! And what’s great is Adriana Mather, who is the author is really a descendant of Cotton Mather!

Read it! It’s prefect for Halloween!
